What
The early WordPress edition of data.gov.au, Australia's open data catalogue, rebuilt as a clearer publication and discovery site for public datasets.
Why
To make government datasets easier to find and reuse, while storing large datasets in AWS S3 for server-independent delivery, better caching and faster downloads.
Who
Department of Finance
Working in Australian Government Information Management Office within the central Australian Government agency, which was responsible for whole-of-government ICT, digital services and web standards. I worked with a small web-focused team, from apprentice to Whole of Government Software as a Service tech lead.
How
Design
Worked in a small team to take the catalogue site from nothing to a shipped V1. The timeline was tight, so we focused on getting the core experience right: helping users browse, search, and filter datasets easily, while keeping the interface polished, responsive, and accessible.
Development
Helped build the custom WordPress theme and front-end implementation for the full public site.
Integrations
Collaborated on the AWS S3 dataset delivery integration, so large assets stayed outside WordPress uploads and remained simpler to serve at scale.
